Located in the heart of moose & black bear country for western Newfoundland, our lodge is the ideal base from which to launch your big game hunt. With immediate access to an intricate web of hundreds of miles of forest access roads that wind their way through some of the finest big game habitat in our province, our lodge-based hunts expose our clients to a range of opportunity that few can match. With stands of virgin timber and pristine country, through to regenerating forests and fresh cutover, we customize these hunts to meet the preferences and abilities of our hunters.

Moose, black bear, and caribou populations continue to flourish as the richness of this landscape evolves in harmony with the timber harvesting operations that have been ongoing in our province for the past 85 years. Combining these unique hunting opportunities with the comforts and pleasures of our modern lodge takes the entire hunting experience in general to a whole new and much more enjoyable level for our patrons. These packages offer exceptional bow hunting opportunities as the exclusive bow hunting season commences two weeks before the rifle hunt. Local participation in this activity has traditionally been very low which translates to exclusive opportunities for those who enjoy the inherent challenge of the bow hunt. Remote hunts during the Bow season often run the risk of meat spoilage due to the fact the temperatures at this time of the year are often too warm for safe storage. With immediate access to cooling facilities and professional butchers we ensure trophies and meat are well taken care of during this critical period.
Moose hunting packages based from the main lodge all have options for flexibility with one fundamental principle guiding their design... a focus on hunter satisfaction! With these hunts boasting an average annual success rate of over 85 % our Main Lodge is among the destination of choice for those looking for a blend of comfort with the excitement of a hunt. In addition to a memorable hunt and deluxe accommodations, lodge hunters will also appreciate a week full of hearty meals from a gourmet menu plan prepared on site by a full time cook (evening meals are even served with a complimentary dinner wine).

With immediate access to such a vast network of backcountry resource roads, these hunts could target a wide range of prime hunting terrain each and every day and not hunt the same country twice. Mobile spike camps and a cozy cabin strategically located in the heart of moose country combine to add diversity to this hunt. Included in this package are options to base the entire hunting week from the comforts of the main lodge or to include a night or two on the hunting grounds at one of these spike camp locations.

These hunts also employ a variety of hunting methods to suit the preferences and abilities of the hunter. Some will prefer a full field day of 'walk and stalk' styled hunting over varied terrain. Others will use this method throughout their day at multiple locations with shorter distances over easier terrain. Possibilities also exist for those with varying degrees of mobility impairment to target choice backcountry vantage points by vehicle, ATV, or a combination of both. From these locations a variety of methods including calling, glassing open country, and if required a realistic stalk can be employed to bring success.

With the high-end accommodations available from the main lodge these hunts are also finding favor among the growing number of husband / wife hunting teams. Even those who opt not to hunt, or join their partner on their daily hunt, are always welcome and never bored. There are many nearby alternative activities but the close proximity of the lodge location to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gros Morne National Park makes this a natural choice and a highly recommended visit for those looking for the ultimate in natural scenic wonder.

Lodge hunting packages are usually scheduled between, and include, the dates of the last full week of August, and the second full week of October. This seven week period includes the two week Bow Hunting Only season and a five week Rifle Hunting season. With Sunday being a designated non-hunting day in Newfoundland, this is when our clients arrive at the lodge, meet the staff, and prepare for the week ahead. This package is designed using experienced professional guides at a 2 to 1 Hunter / Guide ratio. Hunter satisfaction is their number one priority and they work well as a team to ensure their client's needs are met. For those preferring individual guiding this option is available for an additional reasonable rate. The hunt itself will commence early on Monday morning and, after five and a half days of hunting (if required), will conclude on the afternoon of the following Saturday. With advance notice some flexibility of this schedule can be exercised to accommodate the flight or ferry schedules of our hunters.

To fulfill our pledge of client focused service, and to enhance the overall comfort of the lodge, these hunts are usually restricted to four hunting guests per week. This limit can be extended and will be considered on special requests from larger parties.
• For an additional fee this hunting package may be combined with either fully baited or 'stumble-on' hunts for black bear. Recent surveys and local observations have confirmed that the population of these bruins is on the rise in this province and particularly so in our region. The Newfoundland black bear is genetically predisposed to being considerably larger than its North American cousin. Theories abound for this size difference but, with bruins of up to 680 lbs on record, it's a sure bet the addition of one of these hunts to the moose hunting package will bring some 'knee knocking' excitement to the week.

• For an additional fee the lodge hunt may also be combined with angling opportunities to add another interesting twist. Bow hunters in particular can take advantage of the regular angling season and try their luck on the local rivers for Atlantic Salmon or in the numerous lakes and streams for native brook trout. The opening date of the rifle season unfortunately coincides with the closure of the trout season and most Atlantic Salmon rivers in our province. For the ardent fly fishermen the nearby famous Lower Humber River remains open for catch and release angling opportunities that extend through to the end of the first week of October. This fishery has gained its reputation with its late season run of huge Atlantic Salmon with fish commonly weigh in the 15-35 lb class and 'Hogs' over 45 lbs being reported every year!

• There are also opportunities available for upland game bird hunts for Rock & Willow Ptarmigan as well as Ruffed & Spruce Grouse. As is the case with most small game species the population levels of these game birds are cyclical in nature. When at the upper end of their cycle these game bird hunts bring extended enjoyment to this package. These hunts can be added for the cost of the non-resident small game license fee.

NEW for 2007 are possibilities for lodge based hunts to utilize the camp facilities on Glover Island as remote spike camp locations for a portion of the week. These isolated camps are only accessible with a short helicopter flight from the nearby base in the community of Pasadena. This exciting option can be extended to our lodge based hunters for a day or two on a cost recovery basis of the helicopter charter fee.

• The convenient location of the main lodge in relation to a multitude of alternate activities offers diverse opportunities for both the hunting and non-hunting guest. Among the choices for outdoor enthusiasts are activities such as scenic hikes along established nearby trails, exhilarating boat tours of coastal harbors or inland fiords, and stunning photographic opportunities of local flora and fauna at the UNESCO world heritage site of Gros Morne National Park. Nearby community shopping venues allow gift buying opportunities and cultural exposure for those interested in learning more about this unique region and its friendly people. Our staff are happy to share their knowledge and assist our guests arrange these activities. Associated travel and / or guiding required to facilitate these trips can be provided for a reasonable additional fee.
Utilizing the comforts of the main lodge and the network of backcountry resource roads, we offer some of the most exciting black bear opportunities in North America. The massive bruins that roam our countryside will range in size at maturity from 250 lbs to close to 700 lbs with the most common in the 300 to 450 lb class. Typically the Spring season will yield animals in the 275 - 350 lb class while the Fall hunt produces bruins in the 300 - 500 lb range. Hunters may choose to hunt with either rifle or bow. These hunts use active bait stations that are seasonally maintained to ensure regular feeding patterns are established.

The Spring season hunt will commence during the late May / early June period and run through to the end of the first week of July. The Fall hunting season will begin with the opening date of the two week Bow Hunting Only Season during the last week of August and will continue on demand for the rifle hunters into the mid-October period.

Spring black bear hunts during the June to early July period and Fall hunts during the Bow Hunting Only season may also be combined with angling opportunities for either Atlantic Salmon or Brook Trout. This add-on is available on a daily or half day basis for a reasonable additional fee.
